Sonniss has released the GDC 2020 Audio Bundle, a free sound library containing 50 GB of royalty-free sound effects and field recordings.
Every year during the Game Developer Convention, the kind folks at Sonniss release a massive free collection of sound effects. This all started with a 10 GB freebie back called the GDC 2015 Audio Bundle back in 2015, and the free sound libraries grow larger every year. The 2020 edition comes a bit later than usual due to the pandemic but hey, late is always better than never.

GDC 2020 Audio Bundle comes with over 50 GB of audio data and includes 1,466 sound effects in total. The included SFX are all listed on the main download page if you want to check what’s inside the pack before downloading.
There’s such a wide variety of sound effect categories that it’s impossible to mention them all in one reasonably long news article. Here’s just a shortlist of highlights instead. GDC 2020 Audio Bundle contains horror sound effects, footsteps, digital UI sounds, cassette recorder sounds, coffee shop sounds, car interior recordings, car engine recordings, cartoon voices, and much more. All audio files are provided in 24-bit WAV format.
This is actually just a small set of sound effects on offer over at Sonniss. You are welcome to purchase more sound effects from them if needed. Here’s what the people at Sonniss have to say about this topic.
All of the files we send out are just a small sample of our suppliers’ complete collection. We usually pick a couple of sounds from each library added to Sonniss over the year. None of the files we are giving away have been modified in any way, they are exactly the same files we sell. If you would like more options and design choices to work with, please consider purchasing the corresponding collection.
The best thing about this deal is that all included sound effects are provided royalty-free for commercial use. You are completely free to use the sounds in as many projects as you want whenever you want (it’s a lifetime royalty-free license). Also, no attribution is required.
Now downloading 50 GB of stuff can be tricky, especially if your connection is slow. Luckily, there are a few download options available for the GDC 2020 Audio Bundle. If you like downloading directly, the library is available as a 14-part ZIP archive from three different mirrors. Alternatively, you can download the official torrent provided by Sonniss.
