Ginger Audio releases GroundControl Sphere, a multichannel audio routing app for macOS.
Over the past few years, we’ve seen a few GroundControl releases from Ginger Audio, including Room and Caster.
Sphere is the latest version of GroundControl, and it supports Dolby Atmos speaker layouts from 2.0 to 9.1.6, making it ideal for any surround sound setup.
Dolby Atmos has been around for a decade or so, and when first released, it created a far more immersive surround sound experience than anything previously offered. By adding height channels, Dolby Atmos removed existing limitations on how and where individual sounds are positioned.
That level of precision allowed TV, movie, and video game studios to not only create an immersive experience but convincingly recreate any given environment.
With that in mind, GroundControl Sphere offers extensive output control, allowing users to monitor up to eight speaker sets simultaneously. The app also makes it easy to route output in any manner of ways, like routing it to all speakers or any subset within the group.
Sphere’s flexible monitoring allows for up to eight input sources of any kind, thanks to its virtual audio bridge capabilities. You can route audio from any streaming platform for reference purposes.
Ginger Audio added some built-in room correction processing, which means you can tackle any bass management or time/level alignment issues for every speaker in your setup right inside Sphere. If you can’t get it done with the built-in tools, Sphere supports 3rd party plugins (AU format), so you can draft in an external EQ if needed.
Other key features include:
- Integrated Stereo, Mono, and Sides Down-Mixing.
- CUE bus.
- Talkback/listen back.
- Remote controllability with MIDI and hotkeys.
- Compatible with all core audio devices (up to sixteen different audio devices can be assigned).
GroundControl Sphere is a comprehensive multichannel audio routing and control room solution for any home theater enthusiast or studio professional.
There are two versions of Sphere: Sphere Studio (up to 2.1) and Sphere Atmos (up to 9.1.6). At the time of writing, both versions are available with a 20% discount and a 14-day free trial.
On the subject of speakers, check out Soundly Place It if you haven’t yet; it’s a free plugin that emulates various speakers and rooms.
GroundControl Sphere requires macOS 10.14 or higher.
