Analog Obsession has released BUSTERse, a freeware bus compressor effect in VST, VST3, and AU plugin formats for compatible digital audio workstations on PC and Mac.
BUSTERse is the upgraded version of the previously released Buster compressor from the same developer. It introduces several improvements and new features that allow more control over the compressor’s behavior.
See also: Free Compressor VST PluginsThe plugin features the usual set of compressor controls (attack, release, threshold, and ratio), a makeup gain knob, and a dry/wet control. It also features a sidechain input with a high-pass filter and transient controls.
Optionally, the user can switch on the Turbo mode, which lets the compressor affect the incoming signal’s entire frequency range. Otherwise, it will focus on the middle frequencies. According to the developer, the Turbo mode emulates the behavior of hardware compressors.
Likewise, the Xformer mode engages the emulated transformer circuit, which affects the impedance, tonal character, and the overall balance of the processed signal. To bypass the plugin altogether, press the Main switch.
BUSTERse comes with a nice-looking GUI that resembles hardware compressors.
The interface is well-designed, and the control layout is user-friendly. Analog Obsession is generally known for nice-looking GUI designs that resemble hardware devices.
BUSTERse is available for direct free download from Analog Obsession’s website; no signup is required. The developer accepts donations through their Patreon page. You can use BUSTERse in almost any 64-bit plugin host on PC and Mac.
