Free Shreddage 3 Stratus Now Available For Kontakt Player

Impact Sound Works updated the free Shreddage 3 Stratus guitar sample library for Kontakt, making it fully compatible with Kontakt Player.

I’ll admit I’m not super hip to what the best virtual guitar instruments are. But I am quite deep in the delusion that I can tell you where a C is in three or four places on the neck without having to count up and down in my head.

Yet, some friends of mine swear by Impact Sound Works and Shreddage, so there must be something great about them.

Shreddage 3 Stratus is based on a Fender Stratocaster, as you might expect, given the name. Previously this was a free Kontakt library available for the full version of Kontakt, but there has been a deluge of Player-compatible libraries in recent months.

Stratus is quite a nice little library, with a few different articulations and three octaves of playing range. I was very impressed with how the palm muted the sound. Typically you can adjust your hand to determine how chunky you want it to sound, but this sounds great right out of the gate.

Still, it sounds a bit thin – but it’s a Strat, so who can complain? If you want a big thick tone, you’d likely look for something with humbuckers as it stands. You can choke the notes as well, which also impressed me. I’m sure that the complete libraries available from Impact Soundworks take this to the next level.

Stratus 3 Free has been covered before by BPB, so you aren’t experiencing deja vu. However, the arrival of the library for Kontakt Player certainly bore some mention. It has been a great year for Kontakt Player freebies, and I’m sure you fine readers have been appreciating when these sorts of releases get a mention.

You can snag Stratus 3 Free right now, and you don’t even need an amp to get rolling. Kontakt Player, of course, is available for Windows and Mac computers.

Supported plugin formats for Kontakt Player are VST3, AU, and AAX. It is a universal binary, which I no longer have to guess at since purchasing my own Mac with a Silicon processor. I will say I’m greatly looking forward to griping about things not having compatible releases.

It is definitely easier to just pick up a guitar and play it, but sometimes you want to sketch something and it’s good for that. The Native Instruments ones can sometimes offer a different idea or something too. Another bit is that these stay in tune and while my personal tolerance for guitar tuning is pretty wide, sometimes my end user demands perfection – like if I’m making loops or something more new pop or rnb.

    • I agree, Rox. This is such an awesome library. I can’t see myself needing any other guitar plugins or libraries for a very long time.

  2. This free library is absolutely amazing. I’m surprised there isn’t more buzz about it now that it’s available for Kontakt Player.

Thanks Impact Sound Works and BPB.

  3. couldn’t get it to install – native access took the serial and gave a library registered but it never downloaded it or showed up

    • – ah just took forever for some reason – showed up like an hour later… kontakt is annoying sometimes lol

  4. Reporting, that for those who redeemed this earlier before it was Kontakt Player compatible, who only got a Pulse-downloader key, like me:
You might need to order it a second time, after which i got a second license key that was downloadable in Native Access.

(P.S. Eventhough it says that it is compatible with Windows 7, it requires Kontakt Player 6.7.0 which is not supported on Windows 7, unfortunately.)
