WOK has released a special Christmas gift for everyone. It is a brand new freeware vocoder effect called VSMINI, available in VST plugin format for 32-bit Windows hosts (made with SynthEdit).
As you may already know, WOK is going through a difficult period due to the unfortunate illnesses of his loved-ones. This Christmas freebie might be the last VST plugin we’ll see from him for a while, as he stated that the work on programming will be ceased for some time.
The VST is a digital reproduction of the Sennheiser VSM201, featuring a somewhat simplified control scheme compared to the real thing. It has been mentioned that the second edition of this plugin will be reconceptualized if there’s sufficient demand for it. The plugin dashboard looks clean, intelligible and easy to comprehend. The vocoding device is separated into three sections, conceptually grouped as — Speech, Replace and Out Mix. The first contains dials that modulate and control the input voice, the second contains the affected component of the vocoder itself, and the latter is a dry/wet knob which acts as a mixer between the original input and the processed voice. A sibilance control is also included for making the processed voice sound more intelligible.
The plugin is fully controllable via MIDI, meaning that you may use it with a fixed pitch, or modulate the values via an external controller. The overall quality of the resulting vocoder effect is superb and it will certainly add a bit of that funky robotic vibe to your project.
