Audio Damage introduces FuzzPlus 3, an updated and significantly improved version of their old FuzzPlus distortion pedal emulation for Windows and Mac OS.
The older versions of FuzzPlus were designed as accurate emulations of a certain vintage fuzz stompox (I’m not really sure which one – please let me know in the comments section below if you know which fuzz pedal is being emulated here) without any additional functionality. They came with a really good sounding fuzz distortion algorithm and a basic set of controls for tone balance and gain amount, along with a bypass switch and the output volume control.

The new FuzzPlus 3 builds upon this simple concept with a wonderful juicy sounding Korg MS-20 style resonant low-pass filter which is now paired up with the original fuzz distortion algorithm. In addition to the new filter, the processed signal can now be fed back into the circuit for additional sound mangling. This kind of processing does wonders when applied to synths and drum loops – definitely worth a try if you’re looking for some really beefed up and glitched out sounds. Of course, the distortion module and the filter can also be used for more subtle tone coloration and sound shaping.
Apart from the aforementioned new features, FuzzPlus 3 comes with a completely refurbished GUI sporting a modern visual style quite similar to that of the Audio Damage Basic synthesizer which is currently available for free download via Splice. The interface is based on OpenGL technology which, as far as I understand, should result in better performance when compared to standard bitmap based GUIs.
The current version of the plugin includes a useful set of factory presets, showcasing various distortion flavors which can be achieved with FuzzPlus 3. The preset saving system is cross-platform, meaning that custom presets can be shared between Windows and Mac OS users.
The new and improved FuzzPlus 3 provides a great sounding distortion/filter combo packed in a nice looking user interface. Being a completely free download and supporting all major plugin platforms, it’s definitely worth a look if you need a solid freeware tool for adding grit and flavor to your sounds.
Download
FuzzPlus 3 is available for free download via Audio Damage (1.8 MB download size, ZIP archive, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/VST3/AU plugin format for Windows and Mac OS).

onLooks amazing! Unfortunately (for me) my seven years old Intel processor doesn’t support OpenGL :( So until I’ll update my system I’ll keep use the oldie but goodie FuzzPlus 2….

onLaptop or desktop?
If the latter, you don’t have to spend much for a decent graphic card. OpenGL is coding for graphic cards, not sure what version of OpenGL this one uses, but the latest release as far as I know was in 2011, with OpenGL 4-series, but the first dates from as far back as 1992. Not sure why I’m writing so hectic right now, as I’m at work and probably should concentrate on that instead…
