BPB Cassette Drums – Free Drum Machine VST/AU Plugin

99

BPB proudly presents Cassette Drums, a freeware drum machine VST/AU plugin bundle based on our popular Cassette 606, Cassette 808, and Cassette 909 drum sample packs.

Cassette Drums is a freeware VST and AU plugin bundle consisting of three individual plugins: Cassette 606 VST, Cassette 808 VST, and Cassette 909 VST. The plugins were designed and developed by Crimson Merry, whose work can be followed on Instagram and Twitter. The included plugins are compatible with any PC and Mac-based digital audio workstation capable of hosting VST or AU plugins. Both 32-bit and 64-bit systems are supported.

The instruments are based on our free Cassette 606, Cassette 808, and Cassette 909 sample packs, featuring the sounds provided by Edgar Maguyon, Gregor Zemljic, and Reddit user Anderson303. Each plugin comes with a set of three drum kits: Clean, Warm, and Hot. The Clean kits are based on the raw, unprocessed recordings of these iconic analog drum machines, whereas the Warm and Hot kits feature the saturated drum hits that were re-sampled from an audio cassette deck.

Each plugin features a customized user interface with direct access to volume and release parameters for each drum hit. It is also possible to route the drums to individual outputs if you’d like to process them separately in your digital audio workstation of choice. A global volume is also available, as well as an on-screen keyboard for quick and easy playback of the included sounds.

To install the plugins on your computer, simply extract the downloaded ZIP archive’s contents to the default VST or AU plugins folder on your system. Make sure that all of the files from the archive are extracted to the same folder.

  1. I tune in almost twice a day, I don’t have time to go looking thru the internet for plug-ins, so you save me so much time I can’t thank you enough, plus I don’t get links to viruses from here, hehe. Thanks!

  2. Wow, this is a milestone for BPB! First you started by releasing samples and now with actual plugin instruments you took it even further! Hope you continue on this great journey and thank you so much for your service and your great work for the bedroomproducers community. Your blog really evolved since the early days. You should get some kind of award for your work!

  3. And here I thought today’s download delight would be that PETA ad featuring Alicia Silverstone. ;) Great stuff! Thanks!

  5. Loving the vsts. I’m just a little confused. So you can’t use it with a midi? In ableton I can’t seem to play with it in midi. So I’m assuming I’ll have to just record each sample to audio?

It should definitely respond to MIDI input. Are you sure everything is hooked up correctly in Ableton? Also, have you tested these in another DAW. I’ll try to test in Live later today.

  6. Don’t want to sound to greedy but can we get Cassette 707 please. I love the sounds of the 707, so underrated compared to its more famous siblings.

  7. Thanks for these set of plugins, they sound great… But in Reaper they crash the project a soon as you add a couple of instruments along side them. Can you check this out plz ?

Hi, Tom! Congrats to you and entire team who worked on this project. The GUI is amazing and sound is very good, I really like the simplicity of these plugs.

  9. Fantastic work, sir! I love the 606 the most (and used the samples from the blog before), but all of those are fantastic. And the fact that they are vsti now (and completely free) is truly great. I’m very gratefull.

  10. Sweet little instruments! It would be great if you could expand to lesser-known machines in the future. Pretty much everyone has Roland DM emulations in their arsenal at this point. Thank you so much, this is a top-notch site!

Thanks for the kind words! I’ll definitely try to sample more drum machines in the future, if I get the chance.

  11. Hi – thanks a lot for these! I’ve already used the 909 for a TV rebrand jingle. The one thing I wish I could do with the original interface is to be able to pitch the samples. Do you plan on doing a little upgrade and adding pitch shifting options? CHeers, K.

  12. Really thanks for these wonderful tools. I’ve used analog versions for years and this stuff has nothing to envy to ardware versions. Thank you again

  13. Reaper 5.5 seems to crash when I save these vsts on a track. Using 64 bit versions. I’ve tried switching it to save minimal states. Sad, these are beautiful sounding samples.

I’m sorry to hear that! You can still download the samples separately and use them in a sampler such as Grace.

  14. On the case for the two guys who have crashes with Reaper. I have the 606 installed and have saved a project using it & reloaded it with no issues, so it looks like this is related to how the plug is being installed.

How did you import it to reaper? I checked the VST path was /home/myuser/.vst, and copied the folder into it, but when I clicked rescan VSTs in REAPER, it didn’t show up when trying to add a virtual instrument on new track under VST

5/14/18…I used Cassette 808 about a year ago no prob. But in latest Logic Pro, with latest Mac OSX, if I use Cassette 808 in a project, that project will NOT load again, it crashes. I re-downloaded these plugins and tried again, still they crash. Cannot use them in Logic for now.

  16. Im a struggling artist but I did leave you a little something in compensation for this great tool. Thank you for such a great option friend!

  17. I can’t seem to get it to work. I copy an paste it into my AU folder and it doesn’t appear in Logic. I have an M1 chip mac mini, could there be an issue because of that? Anyone else having this problem?

  18. Same issue here, doesn’t work in GarageBand MacBook Pro intel i7. My mac doesn’t trust it and says to contact creator for an update. Shame, I really like the vibe, or at least what I was hoping/imagining it to be haha.

  19. Hi can anyone help me install. I’m on mac using logic. Tried copying the au .component file to the component folder but it’s not showing up in logic. Maybe I just can’t find in logic. Any help greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

I checked the VST path was /home/myuser/.vst, and copied the folder into it, but when I clicked rescan VSTs in REAPER, it didn’t show up when trying to add a virtual instrument on new track under VST

    • Ok I got them into my VST folder, but they still wont load in Reaper. I check the security settings in my Mac but it won’t work

  21. Hello,
I am not able to access the plug ins through Logic after I drop the folder in my VST and/or PLUG-INS folder. I would love if someone could steer me in the right direction. Thank you!
