Stone Voices released Chorus GAS, a creative chorus effect in free VST plugin format for Windows.
Chorus GAS is a plugin that aims to let you mess around with chorus, flanger, phaser, and vibrato effects in a more flexible way. Those effects share overlapping qualities anyway, albeit used in different ways and to different extents. But, with multiple time/pitch based modulation effects stacked, it can get quite interesting.

Each module can be switched on or off and contains exactly the same parameter controls. From left to right, each module/channel shows level, note, detune, depth, and rate knobs. A waveshape selector and feedback section follow those knobs.
The level knob, when using more than one module, lets you dictate where each channel sits in the overall effect. Next is one of the more interesting features of the Chorus GAS plugin, the note selection knob. Stone Voices says, tuning the delay channels to the key lets you create tonal chorus and flanger effects.
In the real world, two performers singing or playing the same line won’t be perfectly aligned in phase or pitch. Typically, a chorus effect looks to recreate that imperfect unison, to give the illusion of two guitars instead of one, for example. It gives you the option to keep each delay’s pitch very similar or create particular harmonic intervals, whether that’s adding a chordal quality or just octaves.
Detuning after setting the key can add a more dissonant or random feel. Depth and rate are as they would be on any other chorus effect, dictating how far the modulation will reach and at which frequency it occurs. Changing the waveshape alters the characteristics of the delay, with some adding a more vibrato-like effect.
The feedback section has a high-pass filter, allowing you to be even more specific about each module’s role in the overall mix. Lastly, the GUI has some output meters and a dry/wet mix knob.
Chorus GAS comes with sixteen factory presets, although random experimentation is the way with this kind of plugin. Despite having pretty flexible controls, it’s not the plugin I’d reach for to add subtle chorus to a vocal. If I wanted something a little harsher and more apparent, then Chorus GAS is an option.
The software is available in VST2 and VST3 plugin formats for compatible digital audio workstation software on PC. Both 32-bit and 64-bit plugin hosts are supported.
