Molot – FREE Character Compressor VST Plugin By Vladg Sound

Tokyo Dawn Labs has released VladG Molot Compressor, a freeware “character compressor” effect in VST and AU plugin formats for compatible DAW applications on PC and Mac.

Molot is a unique compressor effect with an analog-style sound that intentionally colors the compressed audio. It is the type of compressor plugin that isn’t just a dynamic range compression tool, but also a saturation effect and a tonal shaping device. However, Molot’s saturation module can be switched off if required, to get a more transparent compression sound out of it.

The user interface is in Russian by default, but there’s a switch that will turn on the English translation. Even so, the labels on some of the control parameters will confuse even the more experienced audio engineers, simply because they’re unique to Molot. For that reason, it is strongly advised to read the manual before using the plugin. It will help you understand how Molot really works and let you use it as the compression powerhouse that it is.

In use, Molot performs equally well as an analog-style saturation effect, a heavy compressor, and a more transparent compressor intended for mastering. It features several processing modes that cover a wide range of possible applications, from tracking and mixing to mastering.

The plugin was developed by Vladislav Goncharov, the same developer who created the amazing Limiter No6 plugin. Both plugins are now hosted by Tokyo Dawn Labs.
