Amazona.de and u-he have released Tyrell N6, one of the best free synthesizers plugins currently available.
Tyrell N6 is a virtual analog synthesizer designed by Amazona.de forum members and developed by U-He. The project started as a blueprint for a hardware synthesizer. However, it evolved into a freeware virtual synthesizer designed by a highly acclaimed plugin developer.
You may already know of U-He and their groundbreaking virtual synthesizers Repro, DIVA, Bazille, and Zebra2. They use state-of-the-art analog modeling in their virtual instruments. So much so that DIVA and Repro sound virtually identical to the hardware synthesizer they emulate.
“Tyrell is the name of a project by the German online magazine Amazona.de. A reader survey and follow-up on forum posts provided a pool of ideas for a low-cost hardware analog synth. Mic’ Moogulator’ Irmer collected and used to develop a powerful concept. Based on a design similar to Roland’s classic Juno 60, a few modules and novel features could be added without making the product too expensive.”
So, how awesome is it to get a free virtual analog synthesizer from U-He?
Well, it’s easy to find out. Simply visit the download page linked below and add this fantastic synthesizer to your DAW.
Tyrell N6 is easy to program. The control layout is somewhat similar to the classic Roland JUNO 60 synthesizer (it even includes a lush chorus effect for warm, spacious pads).
Of course, the virtual synth adds numerous features that aren’t available in most hardware synthesizers. The filter section, elaborate modulation options, and preset saving make Tyrell N6 a far more capable instrument than vintage analog synths.
Speaking of presets, Tyrell N6 comes with hundreds of sounds crafted by dozens of sound designers. Visit the downloads page on U-He’s website to add more presets.
The default skin was designed by Ryo Ishido, who was interviewed by Amazona.de not so long ago. Needless to say, I love the V3 GUI. Much, much better than the Tyrell N6 V2 design fiasco.
That said, you can download additional skins, too. Here’s a tremendous free Tyrell N6 skin by my friend Jazzigula (who also designed the BPB logo).
You can hear Tyrell N6 in action in the Synth Anatomy demo video below.
Download Tyrell N6 for free from the Amazona.de website.

onExcellent sounding synth! Thank You very much U-He!

onThis brilliant synth needs better antialiasing/oversampling badly. That would much improve the oscillators’ sound. Hopefully in version 4.
