TRAX Is A FREE Transient Designer Plugin By Analog Obsession

Analog Obsession offers TRAX, a FREE transient designer plugin for macOS and Windows.

TRAX is a new version of an old Analog Obsession plugin; in fact, TRAX is one of the first plugins the trusted developer created.

Analog Obsession completely redesigned TRAX from scratch, so it’s more than just an update of an old idea.

TRAX is a straightforward plugin, as many transient designers/shapers are, with just three knobs: Attack, Sustain, and Output.

The Attack knob will boost or attenuate the initial impact of the transient. You can use it to make things sound sharper, crisper, more defined, or smoother.

The Sustain knob deals with the transient tail and how quickly it dies off.

You can use the Output knob (+/- 15dB) to balance the sound in your mix, and it’s particularly handy when boosting the Attack and Sustain.

Clicking the Analog Obsession logo engages 4X oversampling.

There’s nothing more to say about the plugin’s function, features, or controls. But, if you haven’t tried anything from Analog Obsession yet, you’re in for a treat.

The developer’s reputation has most of us assuming high-quality as soon as we hear the name. Another thing worth mentioning is that whenever there are any bugs/issues, Analog Obsession tends to jump on them quickly.

Don’t stop at TRAX; check out previous releases like BlendEQ and FRANK. Not trying to brag, but Analog Obsession also has a wonderful freeware plugin made for BPB readers called Rare BPB Edition.

I’ve said this before, but transient designers are unsung heroes in many projects. While seasoned mix engineers regularly use transient designers, beginners don’t hear about them nearly as much as compression, EQ, and reverb.

So, less experienced bedroom producers, and I think of my own early experience when I say this, often reach for a tool that’s far heavier-handed than the situation requires.

Transient designers are fantastic for drums, whether cleaning up the hi-hats or detailing a troublesome kick. That effectiveness also extends to hand percussion, when you need to highlight the rhythm or smooth the harshness on tambourines, shakers, etc.

Of course, it’s not all about percussion; it could be acoustic guitars, vocals, or anything else with transients that need to be tamed.

TRAX is available in AU, VST, and VST3 formats for macOS (10.9 – 12.X) and Windows (7,8,10,11).

  1. Thank you James, BPB & Analog Obsession, well said James, much appreciation for you and for Analog Obsession’s genius, great work all round 🙏☘️❤️

  2. Halo Lite is free at W.A Productions for 7 days. I usually costs 24$. It’s a lite version of the full synth. It has one of the best interfaces and also it sounds very good. Really good synth for EDM basses and pads etc…
