GPU Audio and VSL have joined forces to create Power House, a collection of GPU-powered enhancements for Vienna Symphonic Library products, starting with MIR Pro 3D.
If you were unaware, GPU Audio is mainly known for its innovative, patented technology focused on exploiting your computer’s GPU to power up your music and audio production workflows.
This landmark collaboration between the two companies puts the processing power of your computer’s graphics card within the VSL ecosystem of professional orchestral plug-ins for high fidelity, ultra-low latency audio.
This offloads processing to the graphics card to reduce the load on the CPU, starting with the Vienna MIR Pro 3D (Multi Impulse Response) convolution platform.
The Vienna MIR Pro 3D concept offers a modern and immersive approach to space thought as a musical instrument, and it ensures pristine high-fidelity sound within a range of the world’s most sought-after acoustic spaces.
It offers instant access to precise sound placement on stage within accurately captured virtual arenas and rooms with up to four listeners/mic positions.
MIR Pro 3D’s core engine relies heavily on the convolution concept, a sophisticated mathematical process, with a huge number of sound sources such as orchestras, multiple output channels (for immersive and 3D audio), and long reverb tails resulting in thousands of convolutions.
Let’s give you an example: an orchestra made up of 80 stereo sources mixed in 7.0.4 for Dolby Atmos will create a maximum of 1,760 positional impulse responses and, consequently, the same number of convolutions.
By lowering the CPU load by up to 50% or more, depending on your system, Vienna Power House provides significantly increased raw computation power at the click of the “GPU Power” button inside the plugin.
The Vienna Power House GPU accelerated add-on for MIR Pro 3D and MIR Pro 3D (24) supports M1/M2 processors on Mac computers and NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards on the Windows side.
The performance benefits will vary upon several variables, such as the number of tracks in your DAW and the number of convolutions, the buffer size, the chosen sample rate, VRAM, and the capacity of your GPU.
Soon, you will also be able to outsource the convolution processes of the Vienna Synchron Player to the GPU, placing the rather dry instrument recordings onto the virtual Synchron Stage Vienna.
Vienna Power House is available right now at the introductory pricing of €145 until November 30th, 2023. Vienna MIR Pro 3D works as an AU/VST/VST3/AAX Native plugin within most DAWs.
