Pitch Innovations, the developer behind plugins like Fluid Chords and Fluid Pitch, is back with a new release and some hefty Black Friday discounts.
The new release is Groove Shaper, and it’s available for just $29 until the 26th of November, 2023 (41% Black Friday discount). Once the sale ends, Groove Shaper will return to its regular price of $49.
Groove Shaper is a creative sequencer that allows you to create interesting rhythms using shapes.
You create rhythms by placing Shape Blocks in any chosen order in the sequencer. Each Shape Block represents a specific note duration or rhythmic value, like crotchets, quavers, triplets, etc. The Shape Block you place in each step of your sequence determines the feel and frequency of the sound triggered for each corresponding beat.
Hovering the cursor over a shape will display the rhythmic value of that particular Shape Block.
Like other plugins from Pitch Innovations, Groove Shaper makes it easier to transform ideas into reality.
For those less inspired by music theory, thinking about rhythm in terms of shape rather than actual note values might be a more intuitive approach. Becoming familiar with patterns in Groove Shaper could also be a faster route to understanding the traditional theory surrounding rhythm.
It might just be a faster way of working for many users, too.
Patterns are constructed by dragging and dropping Shape Blocks onto the steps in the sequence before doing some fine-tuning.
Once you have the basic pattern as you want it, there are a couple of ways you can make adjustments.
The Sequencer section allows you to adjust settings like Global Velocity, Gate, Swing, and Dynamics.
If you want to go deeper, the Shape section lets you adjust individual note parameters like Velocity and Length. For example, if you have 16th notes (four per beat), you can mute or tie notes to create unique patterns. You can also modify the time signature and number of bars to tailor a pattern to your exact needs.
Groove Shaper can host your favorite synths/samplers and allows you to use them in ways you might not have before. Although it’s a great way to produce percussion grooves, I think it’s more interesting when used with synths or strings.
If you’re using a MIDI keyboard, you can create a pattern and then use the keyboard purely for pitch instead of trying to play intricate rhythms by hand. It’s great for orchestral action sequences or synth patterns in various genres, like Trap, EDM, etc.
Another cool thing about this plugin is the Capture MIDI feature; it captures the MIDI sequence, which you can then drag into your DAW for further editing.
Groove Shaper features hundreds of presets across multiple categories, such as Hi-Hats, Percussion, Synth, and Short Strings. The plugin also has a hand Magic Dice feature that generates random patterns based on selected categories.
If you create lots of synth or string patterns, Groove Shaper might be a massive boost to your workflow.
