Thenatan offers the PUMP automatic side-chain plugin for FREE for a limited time.
Who doesn’t love a good freebie? With the sales season in full swing, you might be worried about your wallet – I know I certainly am! Thankfully, there are a few options when it comes to getting some freebies.
Thenatan’s PUMP is one such option and is free for a limited time with the coupon code “pumpfree” at checkout.
So, what is PUMP?
It is an automatic side-chain plugin with a few twists and turns. You might be using something like gain automation, your DAW’s stock compressor, or any number of solutions. However, PUMP lets you duck the bass and everything else from the kick with a few simple controls.
One of the most interesting features is the custom curves you can use for the sidechaining itself. You can go for the standard shape seen in most dance music genres, or you can get quite experimental with things.
All curves are tempo-synced, which is great for the sake of any project. You’ve got the option of straight, dotted, and triplets on the note side of things.
This is also a multiband plugin, meaning you can only duck the bass frequencies to carve out room for a kick if you want. PUMP also comes in mono and stereo variants, if that’s important to you.
I enjoy that it comes with a smooth control, which goes a long way towards preventing clicks. You can also dial in the mix of processed and unprocessed signals if you really want.
PUMP is a good addition as an automatic side-chaining plugin, especially if you lack one in your arsenal.
Compared to Duck, Kickstart, or LFOTool, I’d be hard-pressed to recommend it for dance music creation. It excels in the abstract waves you can use to shape the sidechain signal. But you could accomplish a similar motion with the creative use of an LFO on a synth or filter.
However, for the price, it is hard to argue against. You can use PUMP on Mac and Windows computers. Supported plugin formats are VST, VST3, and AU. It is ready for Apple Silicon computers, provided you aren’t running Pro Tools.
PUMP is currently on sale for just $9, but you can get it for free if you apply the coupon code “pumpfree” at checkout.
We previously featured several Thenatan plugins, including the CLONE speaker emulation, which was free for a limited time. And if you like the sound of vintage tapes, we just released a free lo-fi plugin called BPB Dirty VHS.
