KVR Audio has officially launched the voting stage of KVR Developer Challenge 2016, the annual competition for software developers and sound designers. The entries are now announced on the official page and the visitors are invited to cast their votes through December 18th.
All of the entries can be downloaded completely free of charge from the competition page linked at the bottom of this article and will remain freeware even after the competition ends. There are 41 entries in total this year, including a large selection of VST/AU plugins, and a much smaller set of soundware products. The downloads are open for everyone interested, whereas only KVR Audio forum members can vote for their favorite entries.
At first look, some of the entries that look particularly interesting to me personally are Marie Ork by Karoryfer (a death metal vocal sound bank for Plogue Alter/Ego), Lagrange by UrsaDSP (a superb granular reverb/delay effect which we’ll be reviewing in a separate article), Random MIDI Arranger by Gradywerks (a random MIDI song generator?!), SoftAmp PSA by AXP (a virtual guitar amp that looks quite promising), Roth-AIR by Rothmann (a rather nice looking mixing tool), and Trickster by Beat (a sample-based virtual instrument including 1.6 GB of audio content). These are just my initial impressions, though. I’ll be testing the plugins throughout the week and feature some of my favorites in the news section.
One entry that I’d particularly like to highlight is Lagrange by UrsaDSP, a unique granular delay and reverb effect which I’ve already tested. The plugin was developed by Ursa DSP and BPB joined in during the testing phase. Our writer Bryan Lake is working on an in-depth review of this plugin and he’s absolutely loving it! Another member of our team, Drogomir Smolken, is the man behind Marie Ork, a first-of-its-kind death metal vocal library for Alter/Ego. Finally, our writer Andy Lyon has worked on the Kalipheno Sample Pack, a sci-fi themed sound library in 24-bit WAV format.
