W.A. Production and Computer Music magazine released MultiBender CM, a freeware multi-band delay effect VST plugin for Windows and macOS.
MultiBender CM is a multi-band delay effect with three delay stages. It can generate complex rhythmic patterns, evolving grooves, and stereo ping-pong delays.
The three multi-band delay modules have separate delay time, feedback, and gain controls. Each module is assigned to a different portion of the frequency spectrum, allowing you to independently process the mids, highs, and lows.
For example, you can place a triplet delay on the high frequencies and a dotted delay on the mids. This can lead to wildly complex delays when used on percussive content, synthesizer sequences, and other repetitive audio sources.
Another benefit is keeping the low frequencies untouched while applying the delay to the higher end of the spectrum. This is especially useful when dealing with bass-heavy audio sources like basslines and kick drums.
But MultiBender CM is capable of much more.
The downward arrow in each section unveils the additional controls for applying saturation, bitcrushing, and detuning to the signal. So, the plugin can also work as a simple but handy multi-band distortion effect. This section also hosts the pan slider for each delay module, but this control is greyed out in the free CM version.
The real-time frequency display in the middle portion of the interface lets you assign different frequency ranges to corresponding delay modules. It’s intuitive and easy to use, with freely adjustable crosspoints and a well-designed frequency panel.
The top part of the GUI lets you adjust the global pre-delay, time, and feedback parameters. It also sports a Haas stereo effect control, a pair of volume meters, and a dry/wet mix knob. However, this section is disabled in the free CM edition of the plugin.
If you want more features, you can click the “Get The Full Version” button to visit the MultiBender ($49) product page. It’s a more powerful version of the same plugin, which unlocks the top section, the pan slider in the multi-band section, and a preset manager.
MultiBender CM is available in VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats for digital audio workstations on Windows and macOS. Both 32-bit and 64-bit plugin hosts are supported.
