99Sounds has released InterSpace, a free sound library featuring futuristic sound effects and various sci-fi noises crafted by Johan Ekelove aka Introspectral.
The library contains 89 individual samples in 24-bit WAV format, along with instrument mappings in SFZ format. A future update will include an additional set of instrument patches for use with Native Instruments Kontakt 5.
The theme of the sample pack is based around a story of an abandoned spaceship which is drifting through outer space. With no living creatures on board the spacecraft, the ship’s AI is navigating the vessel through distant galaxies with no apparent mission except for the pure joy of space travel.
It’s a really cool sci-fi theme for a sample pack and I think that Johan has done a great job at translating this imaginary sci-fi story into the sound realm. When I heard the demo track for the first time, it evoked the memories of some of my favorite sci-fi movies such an inspired me to start working on an experimental sci-fi soundtrack piece.
My favorite part of the pack are the samples in the “Movement” folder, a beatiful set of 48 unique sonic textures which can work great as percussion sounds as well as futuristic SFX and background noises. The pack also includes a collection of one shot samples and a brilliant set of abstract sonic textures which can be found in the “Atmosphere” folder inside the archive.
