Audialab is currently running a 30% OFF flash sale to celebrate the successful launch of its flagship product, Emergent Drums 2.
Right now, you can get Emergent Drums at 30% off using code ED2LAUNCH at checkout, and it’s the biggest sale this company has done for a while.
But first, let’s see what all the fuss is about?
Emergent Drums 2 is an innovative audio software capable of generating unique, royalty-free drum samples with the power of AI. The whole AI trend is currently changing the audio world, and we recently released a comprehensive article to discuss the results of a poll we made for BPB readers.
Simply put, we can imagine two scenarios of AI applications: the ones replacing some tasks and others assisting you with the creative process.
Emergent Drums 2 sits in the latter case, with its powerful engine and easy-to-use workflow.
At the top of the interface, you’ll find a slider to control the randomness of the randomization process. This is handy if you want to completely generate fresh new drum samples or just create slight variations to those that you can load into the 16 assignable pads.
The real power comes from the ability to customize the generative process, so you feel in control of what’s happening, and, most importantly, it leaves important artistic choices to you.
Inside each pad, you can select the type of drum sample you want to generate, fine-tune the gain, attack, release, clip, filter, and pitch of each sample, and trim it to your liking.
In addition to that, you can take control over your generative drum kit building with choke groups, MIDI notes assignments, and drag-and-drop rearrangement of pads.
A cool feature is the possibility to navigate through your previously generated samples, so you don’t risk missing anything during the generation process.
Once happy with the results, you can easily drag and drop the new drum sounds directly in your DAW.
In the latest version, Emergent Drums also comes with a Compact View mode, so you can focus on a single sound while still having access to your full kit. Hence it adapts to your workflow style.
It runs on any DAW that supports VST3 and AU plug-ins, so it works for both Mac and PC. It only supports 64-bit operating systems, as expected, and requires an internet connection to employ its generative power.

on$249 with the discount. I suspect for most listeners drums are drums. I think I’ll stick with the drum software I already have, and which is already more than I need.
Brenny C
on$249 *after* discount?? Whew, that’s steep. No way I’m jumping on that. Next.

onI don’t know about you guys, but I don’t see much more of than what every modern DAW already has for the same price. What can I say in addition…. : it,s amazing..it,s insane!…..hehehe

onHmmm, doesn’t help create beats, just randomizes kits and samples. And it’s $249? With no demo available.
Its sampler controls are nowhere near those in Battery, currently going for $99. Sugar Bytes Drum Computer has a randomizer (for both kits and beats) and is currently $79. XO by XLN Audio randomizes kits and groups your samples, and comes with (and combines) beats, and it is $129 but is frequently on sale for $99.
I don’t get it. This seems to be at least 2.5x more expensive than it should be, maybe because “AI” is a buzzword (or buzz acronym)?
Brenny C
onI agree, Jeff. When there’s no demo and there are better alternatives out there, Emergent Drums 2 is way overpriced.

onIn terms of alternatives that are capable of generating oneshots via AI (not synthesis or random selection from a set of prefab samples), I’m only aware of MACE and DrumNet in addition to Emergent Drums. Having tried all 3, the Emergent Drums samples generated are easily the best quality and most usable , and in addition, I believe it’s also the only one that allows you to import oneshots and then generate a variant based on that starting point. It is a very steep price (and unjustifiably so IMO), but it’s also the class leader in the AI generated drum sample niche.

onI got a used hardware drum machine for the same price

onBaby Audio Comeback Kid, originally priced at $59 is free with any purchase at Plugin Boutique. It’s a great sounding delay, well worth getting.

onI really wonder how this product, expensive as it is, made its way onto this site. Most posts are about freebies, cheap, but good stuff, great bang for the buck. Strange…
Tomislav Zlatic
onHi Ralf, yes, Emergent Drums is very expensive. That said, I talked to the developer some time ago and found the technology they developed very interesting. It’s especially cool for someone who spends much time designing drum sounds and sound effects (like me).
It’s not a must-have by any means, but the 30% off deal was a good opportunity for those who are interested in AI plugins. It’s also an affiliate link (as noted in the article), so BPB gets a small portion of each sale, which helps support the website.
I absolutely agree, expensive and not a must-have (more of a specialty tool), but they rarely have deals on Emergent Drums, so I shared this one.

onI understand that this will rub a lot of people the wrong way because such is the nature of innovation.
Most people are trapped in what they have and know, go forbid a tool suddenly demands for them to have an online connection. It feels to them like they are giving away their money and control. That’s why the group of early adopters is small but it’s also that group that eventually makes the unacceptable and new accepted and fashionable down the road. I know for a fact that all of you whining about the audacity the developers are exhibiting will be fully immersed in this technology 1-2 years down the road and not have any second thought.
It’s a fact that has been proven time and time again and it’s cool to see it happen. So carry on.
