Spitfire Audio releases Vintage Keys, a FREE sound library for LABS.
April is right around the corner and that of course means a new LABS library has arrived. This month’s offering is highly usable and a welcome addition.
Vintage Keys is a sampled Rhodes 73, which oozes with that dusty electric piano character that benefits a variety of productions.
Vintage Keys comes with four presets. The interface for the library is the same as shared with the rest of the LABS libraries, so there’s nothing new there. Spitfire’s stellar reverb shines on Vintage Keys.
The presets available run the gamut for the typical application of an electric piano. You have the mellow, gentle sound of tines you might find in your typical R’n’B or jazz recording.
There is also quite an overdriven preset available, great for rock ballads in a classic style or your high-paced funk productions.
Vintage Keys is the latest in one of the most robust free offerings available for producers. If you haven’t taken a look at LABS just yet, you’re missing out, as users can get access to a wide assortment of instruments.
These range from typical orchestral offerings like strings to soulful keys with the venerable Soft Piano and the newly included Vintage Keys. Also present are a smattering of synthesized elements and other instruments with a bit of sound design surrounding them.
If you’re looking for killer samples on a budget, you can’t go wrong with LABS. It might not be robust as a fully featured Kontakt library, but you also get to pocket that extra cash towards something like more compressors (we are joking – there are plenty of free compressors around).
Vintage Keys is a wonderful inclusion, and could sorely benefit from some tremolo, phasers, or chorus to really complete the whole feel. The mellower presets, in particular, are a personal favorite, and I can see myself using them quite readily on some hip-hop-influenced productions in the future.
Vintage Keys is a free download, and LABS is available for Windows and Mac computers. Supported plugin formats are VST, VST3, AAX, and AU. Spitfire does provide a native M1-compatible binary in addition to legacy support for Intel-based Macs.

onThank you for your info Divyanshu, BPB, Rex Roll and many thanks to United Plugins for another awesome plugin, always sounding very nice, much appreciated good work.
Just a heads up… if you see the message on the United Plugins website: “you already own FirePresser” it’s because you just purchased the free licence… You can just download the actual FirePresser plugin normally and activate it online with your account details / or if you download your licence, you can activate FirePresser offline… Store the licence in a permanent place, then when you open your DAW & FirePresser, you can just drag your licence straight onto the plugin GUI to activate it.
I’m sure it’s the same for all of United Plugins products.
