TBProAudio Releases Free mvMeter VST/AU Plugin

Starting off 2017 on the right foot, TBProAudio recently released the mvMeter plugin which emulates the look and feel of classic analog VU and PPM meters.

mvMeter features multiple measurement modes including PEAK, RMS, EBU R128, VU, and PPM. I will briefly go over each of these types of measurements in case some of you are unfamiliar.

• PEAK – Measures the exact instantaneous level of the sound. It reacts very quickly in sequence with the actual voltage of the signal. Because of this, it is not recommended for use in determining the loudness of the audio.
• RMS – Acronym for “Root mean square” and provides the average sound level. This measurement attempts to display the level as the human ear would interpret the sound even though it is technically slower and not as responsive as PEAK.
• EBU R128 – European Broadcast Union rules of maximum loudness allowed for broadcast.
• VU – Another measure of the average loudness of the signal. Helpful for determining headroom available for mastering.
• PPM – The Peak Program Meter measures peaks no matter how quick they occur.

The plugin can measure the left, right, mid, side, and full stereo field of the audio to provide several dimensions of analysis. It features large responsive displays that appear to be adjustable both in overall size by 400%. mvMeter also comes with several deferent skins, designed by Crimson Merry (who also designed our free BPB Cassette Drums drum machine VST plugins). The layout is straightforward and provides all the controls on the main interface.
