Extent Of The Jam has released Digits 2, an updated version of their freeware Casio CZ series inspired phase distortion virtual synthesizer VST plugin for PC and Mac.
Digits 2 is a phase distortion synth, inspired by the iconic Casio CZ product line of hardware synthesizers. The freeware virtual instrument developed by Extent Of The Jam builds on the original concept set by Casio CZ synths, adding more sound sculpting features (filters, built-in effects, etc.) and providing an easy to program user interface. If you’re not willing to purchase a commercial phase distortion synth such as VirtualCZ (developed by Oli Larkin and released by Pluginboutique), then Digits 2 is quite possibly your best option for getting the iconic Casio CZ sound on a budget.
See also: VirtualCZ Phase Distortion Synthesizer REVIEW!The latest version of Digits introduces quite a few handy new features and UI enhancements. Most importantly, Digits 2 comes with a set of analog style resonant filters (BP/HP/LP with variable slope) and built-in effects (chorus/flanger and bitcrusher) which provide a serious boost to the instrument’s sonic flexibility. The 2.0 version of the synth also adds aftertouch support and modulation wheel mapping, as well as the inclusion of asymmetric pitch bend. A couple of new glide modes are also included (polyphonic and monophonic). Finally, the users will definitely appreciate the expanded set of factory presets, as well as the new and slightly refreshed user interface.
Digits 2 is provided as a 32-bit VST plugin for Windows and 32-bit / 64-bit VST plugin for Mac. Sadly, a 64-bit Windows version is not yet available (UPDATE: Digits 2 is now also 64-bit on Windows. Many thanks to our reader Paree for pushing things in the right direction!). If you’re using an iPad or iPhone to make music, you might also want to check out the iOS version of the synth called Phase84 (priced at $4.99 in the App Store).

Digits 2 is available for free download via Extent Of The Jam (432 KB download size, EXE installer, 32-bit VST plugin format for Windows, 32-bit & 64-bit VST plugin format for Mac OS).
