ESI U22 XT cosMIK Set – The Grand Prize
Here’s a bit more about the ESI UX22 XT recording setup, which is the main prize in Beat magazine’s latest giveaway.
The ESI UX22 XT is a bus-powered USB audio interface with one combo-XLR mic/instrument/line input, a pair of RCA line inputs, 2 TRS analog outputs, and a stereo headphone output. AD/DA conversion caps at 24-bit/96kHz with up to 108dB of dynamic range – pretty good specs for a basic and affordable interface like this.
The ESI cosMik 10 is a studio condenser microphone with a cardioid polar pattern. It’s an all-rounder that captures all sorts of vocals and instruments in true-to-life form. The mic comes with a stand, foam windscreen, and XLR cable. That’s pretty much all the microphone gear you need to get started with recording.
The ESI eXtra 10 monitor headphones are lightweight and feature isolated earpads for a comfortable fit during extended use. They are designed for critical rather than pleasure listening, making them ideal for homing in on any details and subtleties in your recordings that may need correcting.
Finally, there are some useful goodies on the software side. There’s a copy of Bitwig Studio 8-Track to handle recording and production. You will also find the Stanton Deckadance LE v2 DJ/remix software and InTone 2 ESI Edition by developer Audified. The latter is a virtual instrument host, mixer, and FX processor with live performance capabilities. A solid offering, all-around!

onYou get the Beat cut down version of DS Audio Thorn. It is a pretty good version, but not the full version.

onIt is good, for my uses I found no need to upgrade. It lacks a few effects and an oscillator but the presets that used all three I found a bit overwhelming, it’s forward, upfront sound is there with just two imo.
