Roland Relases FREE Zenbeats Cross-Platform Music Production App

Roland has released Zenbeats, a freemium (free with optional in-app purchases) music creation app for all major mobile and desktop platforms. The software is available for use on iOS, Android, ChromeOS, Windows, and MacOS.

Zenbeats is an intuitive music production app optimized for use on both mobile and desktop devices. It is based on the popular Stagelight music-making software by Open Labs. Roland acquired Open Labs earlier this year and will continue distributing and developing Stagelight under the Roland Zenbeats brand.

The software is available in three different editions, based on the price and included features: Free, Unlock, and Ultimate. The paid editions of Zenbeats are differently priced on mobile and desktop platforms.

The Free version of Zenbeats offers a limited feature set. It includes nine virtual instruments, four effects, basic song sharing options, and features unlimited audio and MIDI tracks. The Unlock edition ($14.99 on mobile platforms, $49.99 on desktop) includes all 23 virtual instruments and effects, a 500MB sample content pack, fully unlocked mixing features, VST/AU/AUv3 plugin support, and advanced song export options (including audio stems). Finally, the Ultimate edition ($149.99) includes all of the above, along with all in-app preset packs, all in-app loop packs, and over 6,000 individual sounds.

If you’re looking for a music creation platform for making beats on the go and continuing the work back in the studio, Zenbeats is certainly worth a look. Not as much a digital audio workstation as a music sketching and jamming tool, it’s an intuitive software groovebox for musicians and music producers alike.
