Audiority Releases Free Overdrive Guitar Pedal VST/AU Plugin

Audiority has released Dr Drive, a freeware modern overdrive guitar pedal effect in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats for compatible DAW applications on PC and Mac.

Dr Drive is an analog-modeled overdrive pedal plugin developed by Audiority. It is released in celebration of Audiority’s 10th anniversary. The plugin’s design and features are inspired by the Precision Drive overdrive pedal manufactured by Horizon Devices.

The interface design looks very similar to the original Precision Drive pedal. There are four knobs (Drive, Level, Attack, Bright) and a bypass switch for turning the effect on or off. The plugin also features a mix knob, a preset manager, and a noise gate, which is always handy in a guitar effect. Last but not least, the interface comes in three different sizes, which should be more than enough to accommodate most types of displays.

Another cool feature is the randomize button, which sets all parameters to random values. This can be fun if you want to try different guitar tones quickly without tweaking each knob manually.

As for the sound, I’m not a guitar pedal expert by any means, but Dr Drive sounded very good to my ears. It’s exactly what I’d expect to hear from an analog-modeled distortion pedal. The control layout is intuitive, and the plugin is a joy to use overall.

These things are disgusting, they are breaking our peace and time! Bad experience again!

    • Plus that i have account and purchased plugins,
but the system doesn’t agree! After creating a “new account”
all my stuffs available and found there, so stupid!
      Ah,ah,ah, Audiority!

    • i have never had any issues with audiority, i own several of their paid plugins. and they are all very nice, my favourite of them is the tube modulator.

    • Yeah, such a problem, you should sue them for giving away stuff for free. Maybe even ask for moral compensation and cover your psychologist bills (you surely need one after such a terrible experience).

  2. Yes, thanks a lot. It is very nice to you and to the team of BPB to find good plans to improve our work. Music is a feeling but also needs some best tools.
    Thanks !

  3. Oh man, I forgot Audiority had some guitar stuff! I usually use Pre X7, PlexiTape, and Echoes T7E MKII from them. Turns out they have this pedal plus a free solid-state amplifier that’s pretty good (L12x). I don’t think the amp pairs as well with this pedal as their paid amp (Solidus VS8100), but it’s not heavy on CPU and great for clean tones.

    • I picked up the Pre X7 a while back for next to nothing, it’s had plenty of use on bass and vocals, great little plugin. This too sounds really good; I’ve been getting some really fat, gritty tones with Dr Drive going in to S-Gear, particularly around breakup and just beyond. The attack feature adds a lot of tonal shaping on the way in, and adds a fair bit of heft on the lowest settings. A great additional to the resources available ITB for guitarists. Nice work from Audiority.

  4. Great plugin. HQ mode (= “oversampling on”) adds some latency, but the sound is really great.
One thing I don’t understand: Why take so much screen if most of the window is just an empty background?

  5. Just tested it and WOW! With its Attack knob, it is essential for extended range guitars (and also mix dial, bringing back that clean for extra low end).
