Splice is offering the Ableton Live 10 Lite lightweight digital audio workstation for free until December 31st, 2020.
Live Lite 10 is a limited version of Ableton’s popular DAW software, as you may already know. However, one does not simply download Ableton Live Lite from Ableton’s website.
This lightweight DAW is bundled with various hardware devices that include it as a starter digital audio workstation for beginners. So, to install Ableton Live Lite on your computer, you would need to purchase a product, like the Arturia KeyLab 49, for example, that includes a Live Lite serial number.

Once that’s done, log in to your Ableton user account (or register a new one), click the “Register a product” link, and paste the serial number you got from Splice! Done and done! Ableton Live 10 Lite now is ready to install on your computer, and the license is yours to keep forever.
Yes, Splice’s free offer is only available by the end of the year, but the license itself does not expire. So, you’re pretty much getting an excellent DAW for free.
But what are the limitations of Live Lite anyway?
Included with a number of apps and hardware products, Live 10 Lite is a lightweight version of Ableton Live 10. It comes with all of Live’s essential workflows, instruments and effects – everything you need to record songs, create hands-on with your controller, take music made in your apps further and so much more.
As Ableton’s team describes it, Live Lite is a lightweight digital audio workstation that includes the essential instruments and effects from their flagship product. It features the same workflow and provides all the basic tools needed for music production on a computer.
The software’s main limitation is that you can use a maximum of eight tracks in a project. This can be any combination of audio and MIDI tracks. So, you can have five MIDI tracks and three audio tracks, for example. For more information, check out the detailed comparison on Ableton’s website.

I have received a copy of Live Lite from Novation Sound Collective, the bonus for buying a Novation controller.

onAbleton Live Lite is quite powerful. You can do a lot with it despite the limitations. I just sometimes wish it had at least 12 tracks instead of 8.
bmovie
onAbout the 8 track limitation: You can use a drum rack on one track (with unlimited outputs and fx chains) and still have 7 tracks for all the other stuff. Also, there’s no limit on the number of VST plugins used in a project. Great giveaway from Splice!
Adam
onPlus – for layering you can use instrument rack and load as many vst’s as you wish (and even set different key ranges for different instruments). Also loading loops in simpler into instrument rack expands the possibilties even more :)
