Flux Mini Is A FREE Modulation Effect By Caelum Audio

Caelum Audio released Flux Mini, a freeware modulation effect in VST3 and AU plugin formats for compatible DAW software on PC and Mac.

Flux Mini is a simple but nonetheless useful modulation plugin developed by Caelum Audio. It works quite well as a fake sidechain compression effect or a simple modulation tool for animating static sounds.

The plugin boasts a single LFO module that controls one of the three possible modulation targets: volume, low-pass filter cutoff, or high-pass filter cutoff. Only one modulation target can be active, meaning that it isn’t possible to “animate” the filters and the volume simultaneously.

The plugin’s standout feature is the LFO shape editor. The user can “draw” a custom LFO shape using the built-in waveform editor. Double-clicking the editor adds a new curve point, allowing you to create custom modulation shapes.

The LFO can run in sync with the plugin host or in free mode. Another neat feature is the optional live waveform display in the LFO editor. Access it by clicking the “Visualizer” button in the upper-right corner of the interface.

Flux Mini is comparable to two relatively similar modulation freebies, namely AutoTremWahLight by PechenegFX and TAL-Filter-2 by Togu Audio Line. All three plugins share similar feature sets but with some crucial differences.

TAL-Filter-2 offers more filter types and a wider LFO editor. On the other hand, Flux Mini will probably be the plugin of choice for users who need an editable LFO with a streamlined workflow. AutoTremWahLight also works as a stereo modulation effect, but the LFO shape is less flexible.

Caelum Audio has released several other freeware effects in the past. Be sure to check out their Tape Cassette 2 plugin, which was featured in our recently updated article about free saturation VST plugins.

Flux Mini is available as a VST3 and AU plugin for digital audio workstations on PC and Mac. Both 32-bit and 64-bit plugin hosts are supported. You can download the plugin for free after signing up for a Caelum Audio user account (valid email address required).

After installing Flux Mini, you will be asked to authorize the installation when running the plugin for the first time. Access the license key in your user area on Caelum Audio’s website. Simply copy and paste the code to activate the plugin.

  1. how do devs not realize that adding midi triggering would take this plugin to a whole other level. Is midi triggering a “premium/paid” only feature? I only see it available in paid plugins. Seems weird these free ones are always missing it.

  2. So i left a suggestion/comment on the devs youtube video and they replied – showing interest/motivation to add midi reset and midi one shot triggering! If they added this to the plugin id be sooooo damnnn happy – there is no free plugin available that is able to do this atm. I know sooo many people would get so much use out of this with them added features.

    • Yooo! Thanks @AMBEDO!
I’ve searched for a plugin with midi trigger, but no free one can do that, yet. Except for the volume shaper from music maker which was given away last year for free, but it installs other plugins in demo mode, so thats a disadvantage.

Till they add the feature, you can use surge as an effect by turning one of the osc to audio input mode and automating it with a keytriggered lfo. Plus you get mind blowing effects to add along with it!! :)
