Borth Audio has released Typewriter, a free sound library add-on for the Native Instruments Kontakt sampler.
As the name suggests, Typewriter features a set of audio samples of an actual typewriter. This includes the sounds of typing, individual keys being pressed (Spacebar, Shift, and Caps Lock), levers, and various paper noises(feed, eject, crumple, tear).

The release time knob is useful for tightening up the samples. Both FX modules are adaptable with the Tone and Amount controls for the overdrive, and Amount and Bright Room control parameters for the reverb.
All in all, a total of 75 samples are included, recorded at 44.1kHz/24-bit resolution. Obviously, the instrument can be useful as a sound effect for video projects that might require the sound of a typewriter. Also, these samples are useful for layering and enhancing percussions, such as kick drums and other instruments with sharp transients. Besides, sampling a typewriter and making a beat or tune out of its sounds is simply cool!
The full version of Native Instruments Kontakt 5.8.1 or later is required. The instrument does not work with the free Kontakt Player. Learn more about the differences between Kontakt and Kontakt Player in our tutorial article.
Typewriter takes only 14 megabytes of disk space and is available to download from the Borth Audio website. You will have to check out through the developer’s web store to get Typewriter.
