The Prize: Multiphonics CV-1
Applied Acoustics Systems offers a limited-time discount on the Multiphonics CV-1 modular synth plugin. Enter our giveaway (supported by ModeAudio) for a chance to win a FREE copy of the synth.
Multiphonics CV-1 ($99 value) is available right now for the reduced price of $79. The plugin is available in 64-bit AU, VST2, VST3, AAX, and standalone formats for macOS and Windows.
If you are new to modular synthesis, it can seem a little intimidating. At first sight, it might look more like a telephone exchange from an old movie with a spaghetti junction of cables all over the place. In reality, it’s not that scary, and it’s far more intuitive than it looks.
My introduction to modular was as a student pianist at an E.L.P gig seeing Keith Emerson’s Moog Modular System when I barely knew what a synth was.
The appeal of modular is that there are virtually no limitations, and you can think of modules as building blocks. Your modular setup is your dream synth, and you decide what it includes and where your signal path goes. Again for beginners, you can think of patch cables as a physical representation of routing that might go on behind the scenes of a plugin with a virtually hardwired signal path.
The first thing I checked out with Multiphonics CV-1 was the available modules, of which there are over 30. Collectively, the modules cover a wide range, and individually there are some standouts like the OBJEQ Filter. AAS has carefully selected the modules to work well together, making it both an advanced sound design platform and a great learning tool for beginners.
An impressive group of sound designers created the preset patches, which are split into 15 categories, basses, drones, leads, and so on. What I’ve heard so far sounds very cool, and I can see it lending itself to things like video game scoring extremely well.

onI guess it’s a great plugin for sound design!
I’ve been dealing with some free module synths, and this one might be a bit more user-friendly. Easy-to-use is one of the most needed option for me. Some module synths remind me of a mind-blowing Reaktor core features that made me curious, but I never came to using it on daily basis =)
