See also: GSatPlus Is A FREE Saturation Plugin By TBProAudio & GearspaceAs well as free downloads, Beat Magazine is packed with tutorials, reviews, interviews, and more. This particular issue features one of my current favorite synths on the cover; the UDO Super 6.
The 11GB software download features a couple of synths; Retromod LoFreq Wired by Tracktion and DS Audio’s monophonic Thorn Solo.
The magazine originally shipped with free copies of the Waves Codex synthesizer plugin, but the free license codes have been depleted in the meanwhile.
Tracktion sampled eleven pretty hardware synths for Retromod LoFreq Wired. The sampled synths range from 2009 to 2018, and it’s a pretty impressive list.
Here it is:
- MFB Kraftzwerg
- MFB Dominion 1
- Doepfer Dark Energy II
- AS Telemark V2
- Make Noise 0-Coast
- Antonus 2600
- Pittsburgh SV-1
- Arturia MiniBrute 2
- Dreadbox Erebus V3
- Behringer Neutron
- Moog Grandmother
Retromod LoFreq Wired is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux, in AU, VST, and AAX formats.
Thorn Solo is a three oscillator, monophonic synth with some interesting features, like the Glitch Sequencer. It offers abundant modulation options and effects that should be great for experimentation and modern sound design.
Thorn Solo is available for macOS and Windows in AU, VST2, VST3, and AAX formats.
Also included in the free downloads is the Ænigma expansion for Zampler and Akai MPC. The pack is a hybrid of a Gregorian choir and various synths. So, you get the powerful mystique of the choir with a modern twist from pads and leads. It’s an interesting mix, for sure.
UPDATE: Please note that the free Waves Codes licenses are no longer available.

onLong time lurcker, thanks for all you and your team does here. Awesome resource for all musicians especially those of us who are tight on funds.
I just want to point out that Beat magazine downloads has doesn’t have resume download support for whatever reason. So if your internet has hiccups while trying download gigs of software and samples from them, you’re out of luck. The downloads just will not resume now complete even if you’re at 99%.

onPlease excuse my typos.

onHello. Do I receive such a message alone or is it all over the place?
“=== Waves Codex – Wavetable Synth ===
Unfortunately the serial numbers for this product are empty.
How to register and activate Codex: https://www.waves.com/support/activate”
Tell me what’s going on, please
Tomislav Zlatic
onYes, unfortunately, the Waves Codex codes are depleted, it’s mentioned in the article.

onI realized yesterday, that DDMF The Strip plugin attached to this Beat Magazine issue was really outdated, from 2015 to be exact. It works fine, like a full version, but no serial number was provided unfortunately. Latest release of The Strip from March 2021 has VST3 version included and probably some bug fixes. Pity we can’t update. It would probably be too much to ask.

onthe “serum killer” waves codex is not better than vital in my opinion,so don’t be disappointed.

onI bought this one back in February, I have collected lots of Zampler packages over the years, and I gotta say that Ænigma Zampler pack is one of their best. Miss it at your peril :-)
Tomislav Zlatic
onThanks for the recommendation! I’ll check out the Ænigma pack.

onOdd… I’ve filled in my details and submitted but haven’t received the follow up email? Tried twice. Does it only work for new subscribers to the newsletter?

onSometimes automatic email senders are buggy or they bounce off certain inboxes. Try a different email address, it could work.
Leonardo
onThe thorn solo is a monophonic or polyphonic Synth?
Michal Ochedowski
onThorn Solo is monophonic.

onNot good of Retromod LoFreq Wired by Tracktion. They just cancelled the offer with no warning. Right after the start. And this was the big one in this issue.
Michal Ochedowski
onAt first I was quite happy to get this synth. Shortly after – a big letdown when I read about the offer being over. From my perspective it’s just not a positive image for the developer. Sure they have the right to cancel, but it didn’t do them much good.
