Sonimus has released an updated version of the SonEQ equalizer VST/AU/AAX/RTAS plugin for PC and Mac, introducing support for 64-bit digital audio workstations on supported systems.
SonEQ is one of the most popular freeware coloring equalizers on the plugin market, praised for its convincingly analog sound and superb control scheme. Now that the plugin is finally ported to 64-bit systems, I can once again recommend this lovely 3-band equalizer as one of the very few absolute must-have freeware additions to every software based studio.
In addition to its parametric EQ functionality, SonEQ also features a subtle preamp stage with the optional bass booster module which can do wonders on bass guitar tracks. A pair of transparent filters is also included (high-pass and low-pass) for cleaning up the extreme highs and lows without affecting the rest of the signal.
A commercial version of SonEQ called SonEQ Pro (priced at $59) is also available, featuring an additional frequency band and refined EQ curves which accurately model the behavior of classic hardware equalizers. It packs several hardware EQ concepts into a single product, resulting in a highly capable hybrid equalizer.
Please note that a valid email address is required in order to download your free copy of SonEQ, as the download link will be delivered to your inbox. Newsletter subscription is completely optional, though. The downloaded ZIP archive contains an EXE installer which will extract the required plugin files to your hard drive.
SonEQ is available for free download via Sonimus (4.9 MB download size, ZIP archive containing EXE installer, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/AU/AAX/RTAS plugin format for Windows & Mac OS).
