Sway is a premium collection of hip hop loops and one shot samples coming from ModeAudio, inspired by the groovy vibes of music genres like street bass and aquacrunk. Read on to check out our review of ModeAudio’s latest offering, as well as to download the exclusive ModeAudio freebie sound pack which they’re giving away a special gift for all BPB readers.
The library contains 120 individual audio loops (Acid WAV format), along with a set of 45 drum samples and 111 MIDI sequences. The loops are grouped per instrument type (there are different folders for drum loops, bass loops, fills, etc.) and come with clearly labeled BPM values so that it’s easier to match them to your project’s tempo setting. Most of the included loops are available in two different variations, which is definitely a nice touch.
The included loops sound really nice, perfectly matching the swinging vibe of wonky/aquacrunk music. The drums are seriously top notch, packing a lot of punch and at the same having that nice funky thing going on. A lot of work was obviously put into the synth loops (there are some really cool arpeggios and lead sequences in there) and basslines as well, as they are all really well made and ready out-of-the-box for mixing and matching with the other loops in the pack. It’s also cool that ModeAudio has provided MIDI versions of almost all of the audio loops which from the release, so that the users can use their own virtual instruments to create new loops for layering or mixing with the original content.
For the users who prefer one shots over loops and MIDI sequences, the pack includes a set of 45 drum hits which are identical to the ones used for the loop content. The drum hits are really solid, providing a nice and diverse collection of percussive sounds which can be used in a variety of urban music styles. I’d love to have seen some more one shots in the pack, but the amount of included content is already more than fair, considering the library’s highly competitive price.
Sway is a splendid collection of swinging drum loops and accompanying melodic sequences, which pretty much nail the “skippy” rhythmic feel of modern urban music genres like street bass and wonky. Bundled with a nice selection of drum one shots and MIDI sequences, Sway is certainly a smart buy if you’re looking to add this type of vibe to your tunes.
If drum hits are your sort of thing though, you might also want to check out ModeAudio’s recently released Beat Voltage (£15) sound library. It is a great collection of drum hits, featuring 272 individual drum machine samples which are provided in two flavors: clean and saturated. In my opinion, Beat Voltage and Sway would go really well together, and if you purchase them both you can get a third pack for free because ModeAudio is currently running a cool “3 for the price of 2” offer on all of their sound packs.
