New Nation Audio offers FreeQ, a free EQ module for macOS and Windows.
New Nation Audio is a developer that offers a wide selection of premium plugins and a few freebies, like the one we’re focusing on today, FreeQ.
FreeQ is an extremely user-friendly EQ module for macOS and Windows. The EQ module is built around click-and-drag functionality, which means you can add an EQ band and drag it wherever you like for precision sculpting. FreeQ backs up its promise of precision dynamic control by allowing unlimited EQ bands.
Of course, an EQ module that allows you to work easier also enables you to work faster, and that’s something that we can all benefit from.
You can then enhance the speedy workflow by saving your own presets for future recall.
New Nation Audio published an audio demo video for anyone who wants to have a listen before downloading.
You can download FreeQ from the New Nation Audio website, and it doesn’t take long, but I probably should mention that the checkout process requires a phone number. I know everyone has different views on privacy and sharing or over-sharing, depending on your thoughts.
On the surface, the idea of any freebie that can potentially speed up and simplify your workflow is worth a look.
If you like FreeQ, you can also check out Freelay and Freeverb, free delay, and reverb modules.
New Nation Audio also has a sale, albeit nearing its end; a couple of days are left. If you catch it on time, you can grab the Summer Kickoff Bundle for $19.95 instead of the usual $99.80.
The bundle includes over 800 MIDI/WAV loops.
In other freebie news, here’s a reminder that Syntronik Instruments J-60 by IK Multimedia is available for free until June 22nd, 2023. I know that we often see a lot of mixed opinions on IK Multimedia freebies that are primarily centered around the download manager, but it’s never caused me any headaches, and I think this freebie, in particular, is worth getting.
Plus, I think the last time we had a Juno-related freebie, it was limited to specific regions, so at least we can all get something from this one.
If you want to try FreeQ, it’s available in AU and VST3 formats for macOS (10.14 upwards) and Windows (10 upwards).
Editor’s notes: FreeQ is a promising plugin, but there are a few things to consider before downloading it. As James pointed out, you’ll need to enter your phone number before downloading FreeQ. If you’re uncomfortable with that, you’ll probably want to skip this one. Also, the installation process on Windows doesn’t seem to be working. I installed it, but my DAW couldn’t locate the plugin. However, the installation worked flawlessly on macOS.

onEvery once in a while some website is “brilliant” enough to reveal a password for newly created account in the confirmation email. nnaud.io is one of them. I will never get the logic behind it. It’s like “Just in case you forgot your password in the last 2 minutes, here it is…”.

onTheir past website Newnationllc.com had a keylogger and leaked ur information, didn’t allow account deletion, had no customer support team (no response if you emailed), files were kept unencrypted on their host server, so anyone with with a little html knowledge could download everything for free, and was done by some no-name company in India that had a ghost office as their address of operations. Their new site is still unsecured (http), and their owner has no background in coding whatsoever (manager at Olive Garden according to their LinkedIn). I consider anything from NewNation to be spyware. A 2nd year comp sci undergrad could code a secure website which is much easier to create than a .VST.

onInteresting – I will remove the link to their website for now and double-check the info you provided. Thank you for your comment. I installed the plugin on Windows and macOS and haven’t encountered any issues, but I’ll run another full scan on both platforms and their website just to be sure.

onWhen I go to their website nnaud.io, my browser Opera gives the information that the connection is secure. Address starts with https. Could you elaborate which new website you had in mind?
johnaloe
onThat was the website. Seems they have updated the website shortly after my comment.
Coutious
onQuite some plugins for spyware yet also VERY suspicious indeed!

onDo you have a link to corroborate this information? Chrome says the new site is indeed secured, I didn’t find Aaron’s LinkedIn profile, and the company’s filing in Michigan (here in the US) lists a residential address also in Michigan, the state where the company says it is based. https://bit.ly/3Pfx3jW (In case it’s not a permalink, you can look up New Nation LLC at https://cofs.lara.state.mi.us/SearchApi/Search/Search)
It does seem to be a one-man operation rather than an entire team. I didn’t receive a direct response after submitting a ticket about technical issues with the new site, but I did see those issues resolved shortly after I brought them to his attention. I did receive a response today from my last ticket about security concerns where he mentioned that he has yet to tackle the hassle of code-signing. There was also an email sent out to the whole mail list about this installer’s issue being fixed.

onLooks like they updated their website. A couple of years ago, I opened an investigation and distinctly remember two men behind New Nation LLC. I no longer work in the investigative field, so I no longer have access to the tools I used to find the information, and I don’t remember the address of the business, but the picture of the address that shows for the current company on Google maps is definitely not the picture of the address I remember. Previously, I was able to locate the main guy’s personal social media accounts, but it appears they have been deleted or obscured, possibly to protect the company’s image. What I do remember is the owner of New Nation LLC’s LinkedIn only description was Manager at Olive Garden and the photo of the business was a small residential home and that their website would just steal your info, and they didn’t even bother encapsulating the code, so you could plainly see there was a keylogger. How does a person manage being a manager at Olive Garden, have no academic background in programming, create their own VSTs, allow a keylogger into their own website that they outsourced to a no-name web dev in India or someplace around there, and be a producer at the same time? It was a clear signal to me they likely had no coding background and were just shoving money at random people to code their VSTs, their website, produce and do VO for their sales videos, or the worse alternatives..

onDoesn’t look very good to be honest. The original link is also still missing in this post.
Aaron
onThis is false. It’s clear to see why you’re no longer an investigator as you have no correct information.
1. I’ve never had an employee, it’s just been myself.
2. I’ve never worked at Olive Garden (thats funny though). Also, I don’t have a LinkedIn account.
3. I have personal social accounts, but there just that, personal.
4. I used to have a PO box. Now I don’t.
5. No keyloggers have ever been installed on my site, previous or new.
How can you be taken seriously with all this false information?
If you have issues or would like to discuss something, feel free to reach out.

onI installed it (normal and shown in the dialog: “C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3”), it used: “C:\Program Files\FreeQ\FreeQ.vst3”.Able to copy it to the VST3-folder. The other free FX did install well.
Mobius
onThank you, I was so confused.

onIf there is linear phase option, i would download it

onI scanned the setup via VirusTotal, and it indicates that it contains a Trojan.

onWell Newnation has scammed when they ” move to the new site”
Jamie
onIt seems like every new plugin raises red flags now.
Mobius
onI decided to run it through VT myself, and more accurately, 2/71 scanners flagged it as malware, one of which flagged it as a trojan specifically, but it passed the other 69. (It was 3/71 at first, but Microsoft, which is known for false positives, now gives it the all clear.) Those two AV’s being Jiangmin and SecureAge rather than any of the more highly recommended companies might be a clue why they’re the odd ones out in the scan.
New Nation is a fledgling company, it’s more likely their installer packaging needs smoothing out and that those 2 flags are false positives. I haven’t had any issues from installing their plugins (since three years ago), other than this one installer putting the vst in the wrong folder. #FWIW
Karl Koch
onWould be the most easy way to infiltrate your system using audio production .dll’s as people will still install even when flagged.

onI can’t figure out how to adjust the Q on any of the bands..?
Mobius
onQ is controlled by the scroll wheel.
Mobius
onThe installer has been updated in response to support requests.

onYou’re not wrong that my coding knowledge is limited, but it’s growing. But I’ve never installed a keylogger on my website, previous or new.
Indeed, I am a one man operation. Mistakes get made, I do my best to correct them.
My business is based in Michigan, USA. Why would you tell anybody its in India?
