Daniel Gergely Releases Diffuse Modulated Reverb Effect

Daniel Gergely releases Diffuse, a pay-what-you-want modulated reverb plugin with no minimum price (meaning that you can download it for free).

Hope you folks have had a happy weekend, and as we approach the new week, let’s give thanks for another creative reverb/delay/space madness plugin.

Daniel Gergely made waves with the release of his granular processor, Emergence, while Diffuse is his latest and looks like a grab bag of creative widgets to get those creative juices flowing.

At its heart, Diffuse isn’t just a simple reverb or delay, but it certainly can act as both. Calling Diffuse something simple would greatly undersell its potential.

The developer himself claims it is a fusion of delay, reverb, shimmer, octaver, tremolo, modulation, freezing, and filtering.

Diffuse’s interface is clean and to the point, much like Emergence. You have a giant XY pad that sits in the middle of the interface that acts as the primary means of interaction with the various effects bundled into Diffuse.

You can automate both the X and Y parameters of the pad, so you can get proper weird with things if desired.

You also have the ability to manipulate the timing, animation, and intensity of each unique seed. There are seeds present that are randomly generated configurations of the various effects contained within the plugin.

Diffuse goes into some ethereal and sometimes bizarre territory with minimal coaxing. You can certainly rifle through configurations to get a more sedate sound, but you’re honestly missing out on some fun going about it that way.

Daniel Gergely has opted to keep Diffuse as pay-what-you-want. There is no licensing system, authentication, or any other requirements to actually run the plugin. You simply download and install it to the directory of your choosing.

Diffuse is a novel processor and is capable of some great textures. I usually prefer to dial in the individual effects myself, but I don’t think I’d dream up some of these on my own.

You can snag Diffuse for free to give it a test or throw the developer however much you feel is prudent. Diffuse is available for Windows and Mac computers. The available plugin formats are VST3 and AU.

  1. Nice, I’ll try this out, thanks.

I didn’t know emergence got an update ($20) I recently saw Sitala got an update to 2.0 too ($20 also). It’s refreshing to see devs that put real price tags on their products, not a $300 price tag that frequently has a 95% discount.

  2. Don’t discount these guys’ work – it’s worth more than $20. I follow the development of Daniel Gergely constantly and all this was not born in a few days. But, you are right, they should be thanked!

    • i also think before naming and releasing something, one should check if the name is already taken by another plugin or band or whatever it is about.
maybe it was not that problematic back in the days to have three bands by the same name, nowadays it can be confusing or misleading when you have them all in one streaming service app.
though i think it is not that much of a separation problem for a plugin, i personally would always want to have a unique name for a plugin that no other developer could think of.
and just googling or duckduckgo-ing it once before dropping it is really not that much of an effort, at least if there exists something well known by that name.
