Ronan Fed has just released a new freeware delay/reverb effect plugin called NUBE, and it’s available for Windows only.
Expanding on an already vast selection of free plugins by the same developer, NUBE is a delay effect with some interesting features that make it stand out from other free options.
First, the GUI is sleek, well designed with high-contrast black and blue graphics, and the arrangement of knobs and menus is thoughtfully spread out across the interface.
At the center of the display, you’ll find the most important dials for the delay effect: the Feedback and the Level, both set in percentage.
At the top, there is a handy preset browser with 30 presets already included.
On the left, you can customize the delay effect by adjusting the input level, the timing of the delay, LowPass Damping, and the stereo positioning, and filter it out with High Cut and Low Cut filters.
Traditional tempo sync and ping-pong modes are available as well.
On the right, things get more interesting with cool additions to standard delay effects. Here, you have at your disposal a filter section with selectable LP, HP, BP modes, and LFO modulation controls to get moving tones.
Furthermore, there are Phaser and Reverb effects that expand the palette of possible timbres.
The Level knob, present underneath each effect, works as a Dry/Wet control with no effect applied at all when it’s set at 0%.
Interestingly, the reverb’s Decay parameter can be quite long and spacious, with a maximum value of 12 seconds.
Combine these settings with high delay Feedback and a slowly moving filter, and you can get great soundscapes and evolving ambient effects.
The Reverb and Phaser effects are not very customizable, having just two dials each, one being the amount of processing applied and the other, respectively, the Decay and Frequency knobs.
That being said, those are unusual features that not all delays have at their disposal, particularly if you consider the free options.
For a full list of the current best free delay plugins, you can check out our list guide here.
While not an innovative or highly customizable effect on its own, we suggest trying it out and deciding for yourself if NUBE will become your go-to delay effect due to its fast workflow and nice sound.
NUBE is available as VST2 and VST3 for 64-bit operating systems running Windows v. 8/10/11.
UPDATE: Ronan Fed’s plugins are no longer available. You can get more information on KVR Audio.

onThe link provided by BPB (https://ronan-fed.rf.gd/NUBE.html) generates a ‘SEC_ERROR_REVOKED_CERTIFICATE’ for Firefox Browser users.
KVR audio offers a slightly different link for the plugin (https://ronanfed-music.rf.gd/NUBE.html) which works fine on my end and also lets you access the proper download links for VST2 and VST3.

onlooks cool, but Defender is reporting a trojan (Wacatac.B!ml) and quarantining/removing it
a bit of googling reveals that this is sometimes a false positive – still…
