Nembrini Audio releases Big Stuff, a freeware Big Muffs guitar pedal emulation VST plugin for Windows, macOS, and iOS.
My dear BPB readers, it is Saturday morning, and I’m looking at a free fuzz pedal. Life, my friends, is sounding good, one distorted guitar note at a time.
If you’re a massive Sleep fan like I am, ditch the shirt, tune down to C standard, and let’s check out what all the fuss is about Big Stuff.
Big Stuff is the latest free release from Nembrini Audio, who developed a host of amp sims and other guitar-related software in the previous years.
Their latest plugin is available for Windows, Mac, and iOS platforms. Big Stuff is, of course, Apple Silicon native and costs less than a breath.
I will preface this by saying I’ve owned multiple Big Muffs, which this is obviously inspired by, so I do have a taste for fuzz. Big Stuff seems to have what it takes to bring about those waves of fuzz I so love.
The Big Stuff pedal is notoriously easy to operate. You’ve only got a volume, sustain, and tone knob to work with.
Volume functions identically to the output gain function of the Big Muff and works in close conjunction with sustain.
Sustain gives you that sweet fuzzy goodness. Lower values let you clean up the signal a good bit to get close to how Hendrix used the Fuzz Face. Higher values take you to the realm of Electric Wizard, which has very overt sustain and distortion ripping across your signal.
The tone knob functions as a low-pass filter, sweeping away frequencies. Big Stuff pairs quite well with all sorts of amp sims. I had a lot of fun using it with an Orange OR120 and Marshall JCM800 model I found for the Neural Amp Modeler we also covered.
It is an absolute devil on synths too. I’m not much of a trance producer, but I can appreciate a destroyed acid lead. You can coax some wonderful textures out of reverb sends as well, even at the more extreme settings.
I love fuzz pedals, And if you love fuzz too, Big Stuff is well worth a look. Everyone needs a solid fuzz in their arsenal, and Nembrini has knocked it out of the park with this one.

onWell, I have all of their free stuff, but it seems that this one can’t be downloaded without installing the Nembrini Audio Central. So, I’ll pass. For a Muff, I use the Fuse Audio Labs Big Sur (also free). Sounds great, so I’ll just stick to it.

onI’d have to say despite the hassle of the download manager, this may be worth it. Sounds incredible. Easy Siamese Dream tones with the right amp sim, sounds like the opamp version of the BMP?

ontook a while, but worth it for the extras. just download the central, then download the rig standalone, then go to the channel to see all the products and download each one, but I think the rig downloaded all of them
