SoundToys Releases Little MicroShift Free Widening Effect (iLok Required)

4

Soundtoys has released Little MicroShift, a free version of their upcoming MicroShift widening effect in VST/AU/AAX plugin formats for Windows and Mac OS compatible host applications.

To get your free copy of Little Microshift, you will need obtain a sharing code. You can find lots of those at KVR Audio forums, or pretty much any audio forum that deals with virtual effects. And you’ll also need an iLok license in order to activate the plugin on your machine. UPDATE: The promotion has now ended and Little MicroShift is no longer free!

Did anyone manage to get the plugin? How do you like it? Judging by the description and some of the demo videos available online, my guess is that Little MicroShift is somewhat similar to ADT (a freeware VST plugin by vacuumsound) which I sometimes use to simulate double tracking on vocals and guitar tracks.

Artificial double tracking is a great little technique for adding width and fullness to vocal recordings, but it can be overdone very easily, often leading to not so satisfactory results. Subtlety is key here! What’s cool, though, is that Little MicroShift seems to be designed in such a way that it’s not so easy to dial in those extreme settings that will break the effect. Either way, the plugin is definitely worth a try if you can’t afford recording multiple vocal takes, or if you’re working with pre-recorded vocal tracks that could do with a bit of doubling.

Little Microshift is available for free download via Soundtoys (requires iLok). The offer is time limited and ends on March 29th.
