Voxengo Releases FREE TEQ-421 Triple Equalizer VST Plugin

16

Voxengo releases TEQ-421, a freeware triple equalizer in VST, AAX, and AU plugin formats for macOS and Windows.

Voxengo is another developer with whom I don’t have prior experience, but you can never have too many free options! The developer offers a range of free and paid plugins, with trial versions of paid products available.

The latest release is TEQ-421, an EQ plugin for macOS and Windows. At a glance, it’s evident that TEQ-421 is a straightforward plugin, and more often than not, that’s a good thing. It’s a simple three-band EQ that aims to deliver a modern tonal balance with minimal fuss.

The resizable GUI, which has multiple color variants, features just four control knobs for the Lo, Mid, High frequencies, and Out Gain.

To complement the user-friendly GUI, TEQ-421 has a handy preset manager and contextual hint messages.

The frequencies of each band are non-adjustable but were carefully selected to deliver great results in various use cases. Voxengo designed TEQ-421 by tuning to a varied range of sound sources and targeting the frequencies that most alter the perception of sound. The sound sources include vocals, acoustic guitars, bass, drums, and entire mixes.

TEQ-421 is suitable for single tracks, groups, or as a master bus EQ. Despite having various use cases, TEQ-421 is best suited for use on unprocessed acoustic recordings.

The easy-to-use plugin features built-in non-parametric harmonic coloration modules that provide additional presence and subtle saturation. These harmonic coloration modules are derived from Voxengo’s HarmoniEQ plugin.

Plugins come in many shapes and sizes; sometimes, the best option is the one with the fewest distractions. But, if you want a free EQ with a few more controls to tweak, you could check out BlendEQ from Analog Obsession.

If you want to take a slightly crazier approach, you should check out Morph EQ from Minimal Audio.

TEQ-421 is available in AU, VST, and AAX formats for macOS (10.11 upwards) and Windows (7, 8, and 10 – and later unless announced as unsupported). Both 32-bit and 64-bit plugin hosts are supported.

  1. “Voxengo is another developer with whom I don’t have prior experience” Really? I thought everyone used SPAN at least. They’ve been around forever…

    • Hey, yeah, I came through purely as a musician/composer, and transitioned to the other side of the studio later on, so I still backtrack with things that I missed in my earlier years.

I’m sure SPAN won’t be the only much-loved plugin that I missed first time around, but it’s fun catching up!

      Cheers!

  2. Well, Voxengo is one of developers who has been around for very long time and provided us with great free plugins when there was not so many free choices on the market. Overtone Eq and Marvel GEQ were and still are some of the best free EQs. Actually the whole bundle is great. I mean Span, Old School Verb, Stereo touch, MSED, Tube Amp, Latency, Tempo and Sound Delay …. When I think of it, nothing ever changes :) Devs like Voxengo, Melda Audio, Blue Cat Audio, Cockos (Reaplugs), Jeroen Breebaart (ToneBoosters), Variety Of Sound are still around and still the best.

  3. Voxengo free plugins in use for many years and highly recommended. Look forward to checking this new EQ out!

    Voxengo Span
    Voxengo MSED (mid/side encoder/decoder)
Voxengo Sound Delay (mid/side sound delay)

Other free plugins I can’t be without.
LKJB Tiny Q (great curves low cpu)
    LKJB Qrange (linear phase EQ)
Blue Cat Triple EQ (controlled mid/side tilting)
TDR Nova EQ (parallel dynamic eq)
    TDR Kotelnikov Compressor
GVST GClip or Venn Free Clip
    George Yohng W1 Limiter
    Thomas Mundt LoudMax

    Peace..

  4. Yeah, I would add Klanghelm, Valhalla and Tokyo Dawn Labs to the list. They’ve also been around for over a decade. All that + Loud Max and D16 Frontier, TAL reverb 4 and OrilRiver, Great free limiters and reverbs are always needed :)

  5. Voxengo has a wide range of very good plugins, many free ones. I am glad to see their new UI as traditionally they have perhaps overlooked the aesthetics, but I have bought plugins from them that are as good as many and better than most.

  6. Thanks again James BPB, Voxengo.

This is free for a while
