Tracktion Software Releases FREE Waverazor LE Synthezier

Tracktion Software Corporation has announced the release of Waverazor LE, a freeware virtual synthesizer in VST, AU, and AAX plugin formats for digital audio workstations on PC, Mac, and Linux.

Waverazor LE is the lightweight edition of Tracktion’s futuristic Waverazor synthesizer. It features the same sound engine and comes with all the factory presets included in the full version of Waverazor, but only allows the user to edit the macro controls. The macro controls are linked to a different set of synthesis engine parameters in every patch. There are no other limitations in the LE edition of Waverazor, though. Considering the fact that the macros transform the sound quite drastically, Waverazor LE can certainly be regarded as a standalone virtual instrument rather than pure demo software.

We’re used to hearing adjectives like warm, analog, and vintage when describing virtual synthesizers, but Waverazor LE is the exact opposite of those. The instrument is proudly digital and cold sounding, occasionally stepping into complete glitch territory. The synthesis engine does its own thing sonically and chances are you don’t already own an instrument that sounds similar. The included patches consist of drones, noisy textures, and sound effects for the most part, but you’ll also find a few lead presets and pads in the mix.

The user interface looks like something you’d expect to see in a sci-fi movie. The color scheme is dark, with neon-like visuals and text labels. Overall, the graphics are easy to look at and they fit Waverazor LE’s sonic vibe quite well. The control layout is intuitive, with the macro XY pads positioned on each side of the panel and additional controls located above them.
