Ample Sound has released Ample Percussion Cloudrum, a freeware steel tongue drum virtual instrument in VST, AU, and AAX plugin and standalone formats for PC and Mac.
Ample Percussion Cloudrum is a sample-based steel tongue drum instrument featuring four different articulations (Open, Mute, Opened Release, Muted Release) and two microphone positions with stereo and mono modes for each one. The sample content is streamed in DFD (direct from disk) mode to ensure better RAM performance. It spans a range of three octaves.
The user interface looks clean and modern, with the sampled instrument represented on the left and tone adjustment controls on the right. The user can adjust the volume and solo/mute the body and ambient microphones. It is also possible to adjust the volume of the synthesized tone layer, the master output volume, and the ADSR volume envelope. Cloudrum features a built-in preset manager and a doubling mode which plays different samples in the left and right channels for a wide stereo effect.
The instrument is available for direct free download from the developer’s website, no registration required. It can work as a plugin for your digital audio workstation of choice or as a standalone application. While visiting the download page, you might also want to check out Ample Sound’s free Ample Bass Precision Lite and AGML II Acoustic Guitar instruments.
Ample Percussion Cloudrum is available for free download via Ample Sound (465 MB download size, EXE installer, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/AU/AAX plugin format for Windows & macOS).

onAnyone else having problems to install this on Windows 10 with Fall Creators Update?
Installation stops, even when running as administrator, because it fails to write the preset files into “C:\Users\$USERNAME\Documents\Ample Sound\APC\” There is a “non-admin-fix.exe” in the package, but this also does not work.
The same happens with Ample Guitar II Lite. Where is the problem?
I haven’t found any solution on the amplesound homepage. The problem isn’t even mentioned there… Any possibility to extract the preset files manually?

onAddition: Apart from the missing presets, this is a very fine instrument VST! ;-)
