Spitfire Audio has introduced LABS Drums, a free acoustic drum kit expansion pack for the recently released (and also free) LABS virtual instrument.
LABS Drums is an acoustic drum kit sample library compatible with the LABS virtual instrument by Spitfire Audio. Recorded back in 2012, these samples seem to be the same as the ones featured in the old Ollie Waton Drums sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt. Unlike the Kontakt instrument, the LABS version of the drum kit doesn’t provide a way to adjust the volume of different drum elements (kick, snare, toms, etc.). The good news, though, is that the LABS platform is completely free to download and use, unlike Kontakt.

The user interface features only a pair of sliders and a single knob for adjusting the tone and the amount of reverb that is added to the signal. The included samples sound very good, as expected from a Spitfire Audio release. They were recorded by Stanley Gabriel (engineer) and Oliver Waton (drummer) using high-quality microphones and recording equipment. The mix is well-balanced and will work quite well for rock and pop style drums.
You can download your free copy of LABS Drums from the product page linked below. You will need to sign up for a free Spitfire Audio user account and install the Spitfire Audio App which will manage the download process. You will also need to install the free LABS software and we highly recommend also downloading the freely available Strings and Soft Piano expansion libraries.
LABS Drums is available for free download via Spitfire Audio (3.04 MB download size, EXE installer, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/AU plugin formats for Windows & MacOS).
