Angels & Outlaws

Marie Laveau
Chicago May

The starting point for this project angels and outlaws is my interest in Chicago May (Mary Ann Duignan ) an Irish outlaw that lived from 1870 until 1929, she was known as the Queen of the Gangsters. My theme depicts women who have a notorious reputation. So I started with EVE, in the Garden of Eden from the creation myth. In addition, I have Marie Laveau the Voodoo Queen who lived from 1801 until 1881. I have placed graveyard dust from New Orleans St Louse cemetery No.1 where she rests today, in a small bottle, you can see in this piece. Who is to say what makes an angel or an outlaw a saint or sinner? Who is to say?
